About Our Company
Gitameit Music Institute is a non-profit community center and music school in downtown (Yangon). In Pali and Burmese, “gita” means music and “meit” means friendship. Gitameit was started in 2003 by Pianist Kit Young, conductor U Moe Naing, and colleagues from Myanmar. Our vision is to build a supportive community of musicians and audiences locally and to encourage sustained, meaningful contact with international institutions, teachers and performers abroad. We have been offered diverse music classes and programs, not just western music but also Myanmar traditional music by incorporating other world music to nature the younger generation and to create a better society through music education. Moreover, we have also been promoting other art forms; poetry, theater, literature, and other arts to further extend the possibilities of their imagination.
